So the moombahton shit is just getting insane. Freebies poppin up EVERYWHERE and some folks known for other things are playing around with the sound. There’s now a group on Facebook dedicated to the sound and the membership numbers and number of tracks (quantity over quality is never a good thing) are exploding at the seems. Couple that have come across my way in the last week are more than noteworthy. The homie Cousin Cole has started dipping into the sound lately and quite well i might add. And the DC native Cam Jus has slowly been releasing nothing but heatrocks (an ep to be released soonish I’m told) and his new DC influenced joint is adding to the buzz. Obeyah is a DC dude on the moombahton tip I’ve been paying attention to for a bit now. Tracking him down on soundcloud led me to a number of his tunes that have immediately starting popping up in my sets and countless mixtapes from djs doing this moombah thing. Gotta say dude has a good ear for what works. And after asking a couple questions, turns out he’s got some original projects on the near horizon. If you dig what you hear on his soundcloud, don’t be shy about hitting the man up. It’s the only way he’s giving out these gems. I did get the thumbs up to drop this flip of a Suzanne Vega classic. I think it’s pretty obvious I’m super into what’s going on with moombahton and all the directions the music is going. It really seems to be a “everything is fair game” kinda scene and as long as the shit is fire, it doesn’t seem to matter the source. I think this could be one of the main reasons my fire is staying lit with this baby of a musical genre. Even diving into some edits myself (soon come…I promise). This two joints have both come to me in recent days and both went immediately into my crates, with plenty of rinsing to soon follow. Highly recommended you click the mouse and peep game.
